You work too damn hard!
And most of your efforts are wasted.
That’s true of all of us.
I’m Sid Graef from Montana.
I’ve owned (and operated) service businesses for 25 years – window cleaning and auto detailing.
When I first realized that most of the work I did accomplished very little (thank you Tim Ferriss) I was disgusted. Literally, I was pissed off to think that I worked 60 – 70 hours a week to make ends meet, and most of the effort was wasted.
Here’s what I mean:
I spent hours checking voicemail and email, trying to answer calls from the top of a ladder, driving all over town to give bids, did all the cleaning work myself, prepped invoices, did the bookkeeping (rather poorly),repaired equipment, tuned my own vehicle… the list goes on.
Some things I am great at. Others I suck at. And usually, because I wasn’t good at something, I spent way more time on that thing, trying to get it done.
This causes weak results.
The best path for me is to focus on the things I am good at and enjoy, and do more of them, and eliminate the stuff that sucks.
That’s how the 80/20 Service Business came to be.
After 15 years of struggle, doing everything myself, I decided to build a business.
My dreams were far too large for me to do alone.
After reading The 4 Hour Workweek, I determined to stop doing things I wasn’t great at.
I found ways to duplicate and replace myself, and only do the things that I excel at.
That is 80/20.
At some point, I managed to deliberately offload, outsource, hire out delegate or just eliminate 90% of the work I had been doing.
My work week dropped from 70ish hours a week to about 10.
My income more than doubled.
And my happiness went off the charts.
A close friend encouraged me to start this podcast, specifically to show you how to work less, earn more and be more free.
That is what the show is all about.
I search for men and women that are adept at finding and teaching the shortest path to success. I interview them and get them to share actionable info that you can take straight to the bank.
This show is about planting the 80/20 mindset firmly into your head.
And giving you both the mindset and the tactics to make your business (and life) work for you.
It’s OK to make a lot more money while working a fraction of the time. You can do it. And it’s ok.
While you are reading and listening to this, I am probably enjoying a nice red wine on the deck with my amazing wife, or off on a trail run in the Montana mountains.
Don’t be a slave to your business. Be its master.
All the best.
Sid
